Postdoctoral positions

Postdoctoral positions are available for highly motivated, academically-oriented, post-doctoral fellows to carry out research related to renewable energy conversion.

Projects include the numerical and experimental investigation of novel, solar driven thermal, thermochemical and electrochemical energy conversion and storage processes. Specifically the installation, testing, and operation of a novel type of high-flux solar simulator is required.

Ideal candidates should possess a PhD in engineering, applied physics, chemical engineering, material science or related disciplines and have experience in one or more of the following areas: thermal, thermochemical and/or electrochemical systems, heat and mass transfer, numerical methodes, semiconductor and/or photoactive materials.  Experimental experience with high-flux solar simulators or furnaces is required. Candidates will work in close collaboration with PhD students, will participate in the design and administration of courses offered by the laboratory, and are expected to present research findings at scientific conferences.

Please email a one-page statement of research interests, a CV, and the names and contact information of three references to Prof. Sophia Haussener.

Doctoral positions

Doctoral position in solar fuels

Doctoral positions are available  for highly motivated, graduate students to carry out research related to renewable energy conversion.

The position is in the field of modeling of degradation in photoelectrochemical material systems and devices. The project is part of LRESE’s Sinergia project DegPEC – Degradation mechanisms in photoelectrochemical devices. The subproject goal is to develop advanced multiphysical multi-scale models of degradation in particle-based photoelectrochemical solar fuel devices.

Ideal candidates should possess a Bachelors and Masters in mechanical engineering, applied physics, chemical engineering, material science, or related disciplines and have a strong background in electrochemistry and experience in one or more of the following areas: photoelectrochemistry; corrosion science; semiconductor physics; heat, mass and charge transfer; and advanced numerical methods. Knowledge of any programming language (Fortran, C++), Matlab and commercial/open source computational multi-physics software (Ansys, Fluent, Comsol, OpenFoam) are required. Experience in experimental measurements are desired.

The ability to work within a collaborative environment, good communication and organizational skills, and scientific initiative are paramount. Candidates are expected to work with graduate students and to present research findings at scientific conferences.

Please email an application letter, a CV, grade transcripts and the names and contact information of three references to Prof. Sophia Haussener.
